Book Review: Everything is Fine

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

Hey Write Voicers,

I apologize for the hiatus that I took in December, January, and February. I have a lot of personal things going on right now and, unfortunately, I may not be able to consistently post again until June. But, I'm going to do my best to at least catch up on the book reviews that I promised to give in exchange for ARCs, so you should see at least two more book reviews and (hopefully) one interview between now and the end of March.

That said, my next reviews, including this one, might be much shorter than you all are used to. But, honestly, I'm kind of proud of myself for mustering up the energy to do them at all. Plus, I don't like to break my promises. So, here it is a short and sweet review of the novella Everything is Fine by Halo Roberts.

Oh, and I almost forgot, but there's three more things:

First, I have to mention that I received an ARC of this book from the publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.

Second, this review was posted on Amazon and Goodreads first. I just copied and pasted them for ease.

Third, I want to let you know that there are some SPOILERS ahead, so proceed with caution if you plan on reading. Enjoy!

TLDR

If you like romance books that are quick to read, then this is the book for you.

The Super Short Summary

Everything is Fine by Halo Roberts is a romance story about Diana who wants to find a date for her sister's wedding so that she doesn't have to go with her ex-boyfriend AND Enzo who wants to forget about his ex who ran off with another woman. The book is told from the perspective of both characters. Overall I liked the book and I would definitely read it again. I only had a couple of dislikes, but they aren't major. There were a lot of things to like about the book, and I've listed those out below.

What I Liked

I like that the book is told in the perspectives of both characters because it gives you a sense of who they are and what they want out of their relationships. I also enjoyed that, due to its lighthearted nature, I was able to read this book right before bed.

I thought that Roberts did a great job building up Diana's and Enzo's past and I loved their witty banter. I also liked the sex scenes.

What I Didn't Like

I wasn't a fan of the reveal for why Diana and her ex, Greg, broke up. It was built up to be this super embarrassing thing and then, it kind of fell flat. I mean, I get it, vanilla sex can be off-putting and it is a reason to break up with someone, but I just didn't feel like this particular reveal should have been built up as much as it was. I also wasn't a fan of the ending, specifically the epilogue. I know it's there to set up the next book, and it was somewhat relevant, but I personally like my epilogues to include the same characters that I read about, and this one didn't. It's not a huge deal, and it definitely doesn't affect my rating, but it is one of those things that I have an opinion about

More Information

Halo Roberts is "a writer of steamy rom-coms, lover of coffee and dark beer, and spoiler of two fat cats..." Some of her books include Everything is Fine, We Are NOT a Thing, and Finding My Night. Her books are available on Amazon.
